Violin Classes

The Puerto Rican Arts Alliance is proud to now offer Violin classes, classes which will provide the necessary building blocks for young musicians interested in playing stringed instruments. Students will learn the proper way to hold their instrument and bow, while beginning to play their first notes. Through this process, students also learn to read notes and rhythms on the staff while students apply their instrumental technique and musical knowledge through basic repertoire. Classes are large enough for students to play as a group, yet small enough for beginners to receive the individual attention they need. It's a fun, collaborative environment!

The PRAA Violin Program uses the Suzuki method of instruction while incorporating Latin folk music. This method is designed to develop instrument technique, musical knowledge, and musical skills. The cornerstone of the Suzuki method is that children can learn music in much the same way as they learn to speak their native language through listening, imitation, and repetition in a caring and supportive environment.

The PRAA Violin Program curriculum is a performance-based program in which students develop their skills and knowledge through learning traditional Latin folk music and other beginner pieces. Parent attendance is required for the first two classes of study, and new students must make a commitment of at least two years to the program.

This Violin workshop is aimed for Beginner Level students and will meet on Friday afternoons from 4:00pm to 5:30pm, classes begin on January 27th.
