Studio Arts Program

Studio Arts is an out of school time program aimed at serving youth and children with opportunities to develop their artistic skills. The program is held at PRAA's Studio Arts ProgramHumboldt Park Field House location and targets 30 low-income, at-risk youth from various elementary and high schools with high dropout rates.

As a community-based arts educational center, PRAA Studio Arts is intended specifically to bring arts programming and educational alternatives to our neighborhood teens and children, at no cost to community residents. The educational curriculum features year-round activities in the visual arts in an exciting, diverse and creative professional art studio experience. PRAA provides youth the opportunity to engage in arts educational programs that enhance their ability to explore the basic elements of art, including analytical thinking, instruction in art history & criticism. Collectively, PRAA’s goal is to offer each student a structured learning environment aimed at recognizing pathways for academic achievement through the arts at no cost to participants. Group art activities, performance art presentations and recreational activities complete the schedule for this exciting programming year. Presentations by local artists, art historians and talented studio artists will enrich and enhance the hands on studio experiences. The year concludes with an art show in our new state of the art cultural center to showcase your work to family and friends and other art professionals.

As PRAA continues to build its Studio Arts program, its future goal is to provide in-depth arts education and career-training programs for youth. It is committed to the production, interpretation, and exhibition of art and providing an open forum for experimentation, collaboration, and dialogue about issues in the arts and in the students' communities.
