Cuatro and Spanish Guitar Program

In partnership with Music Express Inc., PRAA offers free Cuatro and Spanish guitar lessons to students of all ages. The Cuatro is a ten string guitar and the national instrument of Puerto Rico. The Spanish guitar is a traditional six string acoustic guitar.

Classes give a brief history of the instruments, teach students how to read music, and culminates in a recital and achievement ceremony.

This is an eight month program, held October through May, and are held at Humboldt Park and select Chicago Public Schools.







The Taino Project

The Tainos were the first indigenous group encountered by Columbus when he arrived in the New World in 1492, and were the first to feel the full biological, social, and cultural impact of European colonization.

The story of the Tainos is not well known, and that is why PRAA developed the Taino Project.

The program consists of a community and university lecture series for students and teachers, and art workshops at select Chicago Public Schools.









Studio Arts Program

The Studio Arts Program consists of two elements: The Summer Enrichment Program, a program in collaboration with the Chicago Park District and Humboldt Park.

After School Teen Arts, an after school art project aimed at at-risk and underserved youth age 13-18.

The Studio Arts Program works with local artists of different mediums, including mosaic, painting and sculpture to help encourage creativity of all types.


Three Kings Program

The tradition of “El Dia de los Reyes Magos” is widely celebrated in Caribbean Latin American cultures.

This program aims at sharing and educating students about its history and celebratory traditions, and how to incorporate them with the North American tradtion of Santa Claus.

The program is run at the Humboldt Park Field House as well as select Chicago Public Schools. This program runs from September through December.
