Luis Alberto López was born and raised in Aibonito, Puerto Rico. He moved to Wisconsin to complete his college studies where he formally studied classical guitar. A few years after earning his college degree, Luis met guitarist Lorena Gueny and both began to play music together. One day, after listening to Pedro Guzman's Jibaro Jazz, Luis decided to pick up the cuatro and try some of Pedro’s songs with Lorena on guitar and percussionist Alberto Maldonado. Eventually the trio became a six piece band known as Bahia. Luis continued to study the cuatro and composed melodies that in time were recorded in Bahia’s first studio recording. A few years ago, Luis joined the Chicago Cuatro Orchestra where he was featured as the orchestra’s soloist in many performances. Currently, Luis is teaching cuatro in the city of Milwaukee. He is also organizing a cuatro ensemble which will soon become the Milwaukee Cuatro Orchestra.
Luis Alberto López nació en el pueblo de Aibonito, Puerto Rico. Se mudó a Wisconsin para terminar sus estudios universitarios donde estudió formalmente la guitarra clásica. Algunos años después de graduarse, Luis conoció a la guitarrista Lorena Gueny y ambos comenzaron a tocar música juntos. Un día, después de escuchar al cuatrista Pedro Guzmán y su grupo Jíbaro Jazz, Luis decidió experimentar con el cuatro y algunas canciones de Guzmán con Lorena y el percusionista Alberto Maldonado. El trío pronto se convirtió en el grupo Bahía. Luis continuó estudiando el cuatro y compuso melodías que al pasar el tiempo se grabaron en la primera grabación de Bahía. Algunos años atrás, Luis ingresó al Chicago Cuatro Orchestra y participó en muchas presentaciones como solista de la orquesta. Actualmente, Luis enseña el cuatro en la ciudad de Milwaukee. Tambien está organizando un conjunto de cuatristas, que pronto se convertirá en la Orquesta de Cuatros de Milwaukee.

Javier Mendez starting playing the cuatro at the early age of 9 years old inspired by his uncle. His desire to learn how to play to instrument led him to take cuatro lessons with Benito Fred a well known musician from his hometown San Sebastian.
At the age of 16 years old Javier Mendez participated in cuatro competitions sponsored by the Cultural Institute of Puerto Rico bringing home 1st place award in various competitions.
At the age of 18 years old he moves to New York and met Tuto Feliciano a very well know cuatro musician and also met Vitin Morales son of Ramito Morales (trovador) wish gave Javier Mendez the name Dedos de Oro. Javier performed with them in activities on Colleges and Universities representing our Puerto Rican Culture.
Javier Mendez resides in Chicago and recently represented Puerto Rico on the Smithsonian Folk Life Musical Festival. His reputation has gained the respect of artist from Puerto Rico and has performed and recorded with various artist. Javier is an active member (musician) of Agape church in Chicago in which Reverend Daniel Matos is the pastor and he is grateful of the encouragement he has received from his pastor. Javier will continue to exalt our ethnic culture thru our typical music.
Javier Mendez comenzo a tocar el cuatro a la temprana edad de 9 a~nos inspirado por su tio. Su deseo de perfeccionar sus destrezas en el cuatro lo condujo a tomar clases con Benito Fred un reconocido cuatrista de su pueblo San Sebastian.
A la edad de 16 a~nos participo de competencias de Cuatro auspiciado por el Instituto de Cultura de Puerto Rico ganando los primeros lugares en varias ocasiones.
A la edad de 18 a~nos se fue a Nueva York y conocio a Tuto Feliciano un reconocido cuatrista y a Vitin Morales el hijo de Ramito Morales el cual le dio a Javier el nombre Dedos de Oro por sus destrezas con el cuatro. Javier participo con ellos en actividades en colegios y universidades representando la cultura puertorriquena.
Recientemente participo en el festival folklorico Smithsonian . La reputacion de Javier se ha ganado el respeto de artistas puertorriquenos y del caribe. Javier ha grabado discos y ha acompanado a artistas de gran baluarte. Javier es un miembro activo y musico de la iglesia Agape en la ciudad de Chicago en la cual el Reverend Daniel Matos es el lider y esta muy agradecido del apoyo que ha recibido de el. Javier continuara exaltando la cultura Puertorriquena a traves de su musica.
LOS HERMANOS OLAVARRIA 
For over the last three decades, the Olavarria Brothers have been at the
forefront of preserving and promoting Puerto Rican traditional music in
the city of Chicago. These four talented musicians have admirably
represented the Windy City by performing alongside or accompanying
world renown Puerto Rican Cuatro legends like Yomo Toro, Nieves
Quintero, and singers like Odilio Gonzalez, and many others. This group
has also been publicly acknowledge by their peers and the community as the
best in their craft, i.e. recipients of the 1997 “Agueybana Award’ for the
best Puerto Rican traditional group in Chicago.
The brothers are led by the talented singer/composer, Victor Olavarria,
who has written and performed two of the groups most popular
compositions, “Paradeando en Chicago” and “De Lo Bueno Lo Mejor”.
His 2007 CD release is entitled “Homenaje al Cuatro Puertorriqueño”,
where Victor pays tribute to the Puerto Rican Cuatro. In this recording he
is skillfully accompanied by the renown Puerto Rican Cuatro musician,
Prodigio Claudio.
Por más de tres décadas, los Hermanos Olavrria han éstado a la vanguardia preservando y promoviendo la música tradicional de Puerto Rico en la ciudad de Chicago. Estos cuatro músicos talentosos han representado admirablemente la Ciudad de los vientos presentándose junto a reconocidas leyendas del cuatro puertorriqueño como Yomo Toro, Nieves Quniters, y cantantes como Odilio Gonzalez y muchos otros. Este grupo también ha sido reconocido públicamente por sus colegas y la comunidad como los mejores en su oficio. En el 2007 el Festival de Cuatro fue dedicado a los Hermanos Olavarria. En 1997, fueron los recipients de Premio Agueybaná por ser el major grupo de musician puertorriqueña tradicional de Chicago.
Los Hermanos están bajo la dirección del talentoso contante y compositor, Victor Olavarría, quien ha escrito e interpretado dos de las composiciones más populares del grupo, Parrandeando en Chicago y De Lo Buneos Lo Mejor. Su disco en el 2007 se titula Homenaje al cuatro puertorriqueño, donde Victor rinde tributo al cuatro puertorriqueño. En esta producción discográfica lo acompaña el reconocido cuatrista puertorriqueño, Prodijio Claudio.
