Meralis Álvarez
School Site Coordinator

Meralis Álvarez is an artist, storyteller, educator, thinker, digital curator, and writer specializing in contemporary arts and cultural production within the United States, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Pan-African diaspora. As a visionary, multicultural, bilingual, and transdisciplinary thinker, she is intrigued by the complex cosmology of human existence and storytelling; especially the histories that are anchored in ancestral cultural traditions and practices from the West Indies.

Álvarez is a cum laude graduate of Lawrence University, and completed her Master of Arts in Humanities from The University of Chicago. Her non-traditional thesis project was completed an oral-history investigative project written in the short-story form. In the past three years she has completed extensive multidisciplinary arts-based research and oral history projects, which she has presented in small and intimate panels within the Lawrence University and the University of Chicago academic communities. Álvarez is a professional with a "village" approach, who successfully maximizes collaborative spaces within corporations, academic institutions, and organizations within the arts and culture.
