Puerto Rican Arts Alliance, 3000 N Elbridge Ave, Chicago, IL 60618
Dear Friend of PRAA,
As 2013 draws to a close, we would like to thank you and your family for your support during this exciting year. As a community-based organization, our programs thrive through the dedication of volunteers, parents, local artists and youth who tirelessly work to bring art and music to over 10,000 Chicagoans annually. We are proud to have three northwest side locations that host exhibitions, free classes, concerts and more. In addition, PRAA continues to partner with CPS schools across Chicago to bring Puerto Rican arts into the classrooms of over 1,200 youth.
After a year of successful programming from the Three Kings celebration in Humboldt Park to the "Ponce in Chicago" exhibition at PRAA Center to the largest Cuatro Festival to date, PRAA is excited to announce a new initiative: The Latin Music Project. This new initiative will expand PRAA's successful heritage-based music program to include percussion, brass and woodwind instruments. Classes will teach Latin music genres - including folkloric, Afro-Caribbean, salsa and jazz - and include instruction in music theory, composition and arrangement. Collaborations with the Music Conservatory of Puerto Rico and University of Illinois at Chicago as well as continued support from Chicago's close-knit Latino community will help ensure the success of this exciting new endeavor.
The accomplishments of this past year would not have been possible without PRAA's extended family: our staff, board, members, volunteers, local schools, students, families, and financial supporters. With this in mind, we ask that you join us in making a contribution this holiday season. With the rollout of exciting new music programming comes the need to form a solid financial foundation, ensuring the success of the project for years to come. For all your years of support, PRAA thanks you and looks forward to serving you and your family in the coming year.
Juan Mendez, Board Chairman
